Neem Hospital is pleased to inform you that we have been able to establish the Breast Health Center of Excellence at the Neem Hospital Muscat.
The Breast Health Center is an interdisciplinary and multi-professional cooperation platform for all disciplines involved in the care of breast problems. A team of world renown specialists from different departments care for patients in a breast cancer center across disciplines.
It is a national and international reference center for comprehensive (holistic) Breast Care for Women, the first in Muscat and the Oman and a few in the world
Scope of Medical Care
Pregnancy & Breast Feeding
From the moment a woman becomes pregnant, her body prepares for the birth of her baby.
But not only her uterus is working at full speed - the anatomy of your breast is also changing significantly
Breasts Changes before Childbirth
Nipple hypersensitivity: Some mothers-to-be experience breast tenderness throughout their pregnancy leading up to delivery, but for most, this resolves after the first trimester.
Breast growth: The breasts can grow rapidly in the first few weeks or gradually become larger. Overall, the breast volume increases by about 150%. If the breasts grow very quickly, stretch marks with itching will form. A mild moisturizer may help relieve itching.
Enlargement of the areola: The nipples become larger and darker. Small bumps and pimples (Montgomery glands) appear.
Milk production: Milk production begins as early as the second trimester of pregnancy. Pre-milk (colostrum) can flow out of the nipples even before birth
Breasts Changes after Childbirth
Milk shot: Due to the sinking pregnancy hormones, the milk-forming hormones can start their work. About 2 - 4 days after the birth - in the case of caesarean section 5 - 7 days - the so-called milk comes in. The breasts may feel uncomfortable or even painful during this time. This is common but usually subsides after a few days. During this time you should continue to breastfeed. If problems persist, women should consult a lactation consultant or midwife.
Breast changes while breastfeeding
Progressive Reduction of Breast volume:
- For the first three months of breastfeeding, the breasts will likely feel quite full before breastfeeding
- After six months of breastfeeding, the breast volume decreases
- By the time the baby is 15 months old, your breasts will be back to their pre-pregnancy size
Breast changes after breastfeeding
Pregnancy Breast sagging (ptosis): With weaning, the breast changes caused by lactation recede. Pregnancy leads to structural changes in the breasts with loss of fatty tissue. The breasts no longer look so firm and taut.
The best way to prevent the breast from sagging is
- to wear a bra that offers good, all-round support to the breasts
- avoid gaining excess weight
- make sure that the skin is provided with necessary moisturization

Too small breasts (insufficient volume, hypoplasia)
Breasts that are too small represent a great psychological burden for many women.
Breast enlargement (augmentation) is the most common cosmetic surgery for women.
An enlargement can be achieved through:
- breast augmentation with autologous fat injection/lipofilling for natural breast augmentation without silicone prosthesis
- breast augmentation with silicone implants
- combination of lipofilling and silicone implant (so-called “hybrid technique”)
Too big breasts (excessive volume, hyperplasia)
Excessively large breasts can lead to
- physical (back pain, poor posture, chronic inflammation below the breasts, ..),
- functional (impairments in everyday life, in sports, when choosing clothing, ...)
- psychological impairments (lack of self-confidence, ...)
There are numerous surgical techniques available for breast reduction/mammary reduction, which enable scar-saving volume reduction.

Breast of unequal size (Asymmetry, Anisomastia)
There are no two identical breasts: A more detailed analysis of the two breasts (the bosom) shows that the right and left breast are not completely symmetrical:
- Small differences between the two breasts make the breasts appear much more expressive and interesting.
- Larger differences, on the other hand, disturb the basic harmony and make the breasts appear less attractive.
There are several treatment options for correcting breasts of different sizes (anisomastia), which are used depending on the extent of the asymmetry and the wishes of the patient.
- Autologous fat injection/lipofilling to correct breast asymmetries is the therapy of choice today
- Alternatively, breast augmentation with breast implants,
- breast shaping on the smaller side or an equal reduction on the larger side can be performed
Sagging breasts (Breast Ptosis)
In the course of tissue aging, dropping breasts develop (mammary ptosis or sagging breast). Empty and/or sagging female breasts often disturb a positive body feeling”
The selection of the corrective procedure depends on the extent of the breast sagging (ptosis), the quality of the soft skin and the patient's wishes.
- When sagging (ptosis) begins, the autologous fat injection/lipofilling is the therapy of choice to correct an incipient volume loss in the breast area
- Alternatively, the missing breast volume can be achieved by breast augmentation with implants.
- Advanced ptosis requires breast reshaping by breast lift. If your own breast volume is not sufficient to achieve the desired size and shape, an autologous fat transplant or a breast implant is also necessary
Areola/Nipple Changes
The nipple is in the center of the areola.
Deformed nipples can seriously impair the overall appearance of a breast in women and men Nipples can be:
- too big
- too long
- flat or even retracted

For a fast and reliable diagnosis we use the so-called “Fast-Track Protocol. The diagnostic for breast cancer includes
- both breasts (primary tumor)
- both armpits (lymph nodes)
- and possibly the entire body (metastases)
At the end of the Fast-track diagnostic pathway the following questions must be answered:
- Is it breast cancer, yes or no ?
- What type of breast cancer is it ?
- What stage of breast cancer is it ?
Treatment
Multimodal Treatment of Breast, Body & Soul: Modern Cancer Treatment addresses the local tumor (Breast and Armpit) and possible systemic deposits throughout the Body and the Soul.
Body: Your doctor will determines the best possible treatment options based on your types of Breast cancer, its grade, size and stage, and whether the cancer cells are sensitive to hormones
- Local therapy includes Surgery and Radiotherapy. It treats the cancer at the site e.g. the breast and axilla (armpit) without affecting the rest of the body
- Systemic Anti/Cancer Therapy (SACT) refers to the use of drugs which enter the bloodstream to reach the rest of the body, targeting cancer cells anywhere in the body. Chemotherapy, Hormone Therapy, and Targeted Therapy are systemic therapies
