Anesthesia
Anesthesia is a medical specialty focused on providing pain relief and managing patients' physiological conditions during and after surgical and other medical procedures. Anesthesia departments play a critical role in patient care, ensuring comfort and safety before, during, and after procedures.
Procedures
Pre-operative Assessment:
A Preoperative Anesthesia clinic, also known as a pre-anesthesia assessment clinic (PAC), is a specialized clinic where patients scheduled for surgery or procedures requiring anesthesia undergo evaluation before the day of their procedure. Anesthesiologists

- determine the most appropriate type of anesthesia: There are various types of anesthesia, including general, regional, and local anesthesia, as well as sedation, based on the patient's needs and the procedure
Intraoperative Care:
Anesthesia during surgery renders patients pain-free and unaware of the procedure. It involves administering medications, called anesthetics, to induce a temporary state of unconsciousness or to numb specific body parts. Anesthesiologists monitor patients' vital signs, manage pain, and ensure the patient's safety and comfort throughout the procedure
Postoperative Care:
They provide pain management and care for patients in the recovery phase, ensuring a smooth transition back to normal function.

- Treatment for chronic pain includes medicines, physiotherapy, psychological therapy, and relaxation techniques.
Pain management relies on multiple techniques and treatments to discover and manage the root cause of a patient’s pain.
It aims to provide relief and improve the quality of life for patients with acute and chronic pain conditions.
This goal can be achieved by the use of pain medicine (pharmacological methods) and non-pharmacological methods.
Critical Care
Critical care (Intensive care), is a specialized area of medicine focused on patients with life-threatening illnesses or injuries. It involves close monitoring and advanced life support interventions to stabilize patients and manage organ dysfunction. This specialized Care is delivered at the Intensive Care Unit.
